Tottenham have reportedly fallen off in the race to sign Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, with Chelsea and Newcastle United now believed to be in the lead for the France international.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Premier League duo have intensified their efforts in recent days to sign the 2022 FIFA World Cup finalist, with Rabiot expected to leave Turin this January following an impressive competition out in Qatar as well as shining for Juventus this season.
TuttoMercatoWeb had recently reported that Tottenham were confident in beating Premier League rivals to Rabiot’s signature. However, it now looks like Chelsea and Newcastle have overtaken the north London side in the race to sign the 27-year-old midfielder.
Both English clubs are looking to add to their squads this January, with Todd Boehly likely to spend big in the market for Chelsea whilst Eddie Howe’s side will want to strengthen in key areas to solidify their top-four spot heading into the second half of the season.

Indeed, Rabiot would be quite the signing given how good the Frenchman has been this season, with Chelsea, in particular, looking to bring in a central midfielder with N’Golo Kante and Jorginho expected to leave come to the end of this campaign. And for Tottenham, this would be quite the blow.
After all, Rabiot is a player who could suit Antonio Conte’s style of play perfectly. And losing out on the midfielder to Chelsea of all clubs would sting for the north London side, especially given that the two clubs will likely face off against each other for a UEFA Champions League spot.
Chelsea beating Tottenham and Newcastle to Rabiot signing would send a message

Rumours early on this window seem to suggest that Chelsea are not here to play around, with the Blues expected to go big on numerous signings that could shape the entire January market. And Rabiot will be one of those players, with the midfielder heading to Stamford Bridge now seemingly a possibility.
As for Newcastle and Tottenham, missing out on Rabiot would be quite the blow given how good the midfielder has been this season for club and country. And seeing the Frenchman move to Chelsea would sting even more given how predictable such a move feels like on paper.
