Tottenham Hotspur have now had a bid accepted for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero as they near another summer signing.

That’s according to TyC Sports in Romero’s native Argentina, who claim that Tottenham now a have a ‘total agreement’ in place with Atalanta.

It’s stated that Atalanta have accepted the offer of €50million (£43million), though Tottenham will also pay €5million (£4.3million) in add-ons, bringing the deal to around £47million.

Romero has agreed terms on a deal with Tottenham, but there is still one more hurdle for Fabio Paratici to clear.

It’s claimed that, whilst Atalanta have signed a new defender in Matteo Lovato, they will only let Romero leave once Juventus defender Merih Demiral is on board.

Maybe Atalanta go for another big centre back, but they seemingly want Romero’s replacement ready to go in Bergamo before the move to Tottenham is rubber-stamped.

Still, this is a massive boost for Tottenham if true and a real signal of intent from Paratici given that Romero was named as Serie A’s top defender last season.

The 23-year-old looks set for a huge future, and with Tottenham needing a new defensive leader following Toby Alderweireld’s exit, Romero could be that man.

Paratici has already brought in Pierluigi Gollini and Bryan Gil, so Romero could now be Paratici’s third Tottenham signing if Atalanta can finalise a signing of their own.
