Bayern Munich are reportedly hopeful they can strike a deal this week to sign Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who is believed to be a target for Tottenham.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Bavarian giants will meet with their Bundesliga rivals this week for more discussions over the Swiss international, with Sommer now the clear favourite to replace Manuel Neuer for the German champions for the remainder of the season.

Lauded by Gladbach manager Daniel Farke as ‘world-class’, Sommer is regarded by many as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe and a player who has more than earned his chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe in Bayern.

However, the Bundesliga side are not the only side interested in signing Sommer, with journalist Dean Jones recently reporting that Tottenham are also keen on the Swiss international, though it now appears that Bayern will soon win the race for the goalkeeper.

Indeed, Tottenham are in no desperate rush to replace Hugo Lloris despite a string of poor performances since the return of the Premier League. And with Bayern in need of an obvious replacement for the injured Neuer, Sommer would be a perfect signing for the Bavarian side this January.

Sommer has long been touted for a big move to one of Europe’s elite. And with Bayern now in talks with Gladbach to sign the Swiss veteran, the goalkeeper is now seemingly set to finally join a club where his talents will be on show for the entire world to see.

As for Tottenham, the north London club can now shift their goalkeeping transfer focus to a younger and more suitable option than Sommer, with Lloris likely to be replaced this year having recently retired from international duty with France.
