FC Barcelona are reportedly still interested in signing Tottenham target Pedro Porro despite the Catalan giants having huge financial issues that could make a transfer impossible.
According to the Athletic, Barcelona remain keen on signing Sporting Lisbon’s star defender. However, as per the report, the La Liga side’s issues off the pitch could be what stops Porro from returning to Spain in the January transfer window.
As per the report, a club activating Porro’s £40m release clause will be the only way Sporting will allow the defender to leave this month, with Tottenham seemingly the leading club in the race to sign the former Manchester City talent despite Barcelona’s interest.
Antonio Conte is keen to sign a new right-back in January with the Italian manager not sold on any of Tottenham’s options in the position, and whilst Barcelona are still keen on Porro, this update seems to indicate that the European giants won’t be making a move for the Sporting star this window.

Indeed, Porro is Conte’s number one right-back choice this January, and with Tottenham now surging ahead in the race to sign the defender, the north London side will want to be quick if they’re to snap up the fullback’s signature amid interest from rivals clubs.
Given how short the January window is, anything can happen in a small period of time. And in the case of Tottenham and Porro, there’s every chance that a team, such as Barcelona, can come out of the blue to sign the defender right from Conte’s nose.
Tottenham must sign Porro ASAP amid Barcelona interest

Barcelona’s financial situation make them an unlikely candidate to sign Porro this January, but given the methods the Blaugrana used to win the summer transfer window, nothing is impossible when it comes to the Catalan side, which means Tottenham have to do all they can to bring the fullback to London.
After all, Conte is desperate to sign a new right-back this month, and Porro ticks all the right boxes for what the Tottenham manager wants from a player in his role, yet interest from Barcelona must be used as rocket fuel in their hopes of recruiting the Sporting star.
