Aston Villa want Emiliano Martinez to be one of the world’s most expensive goalkeepers to sell the Argentine. He is also a transfer target of Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer.
That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports Aston Villa are using Liverpool’s move for Alisson Becker and Chelsea’s move for Kepa Arrizabalaga as benchmarks to set their price tag for Martinez on. They were world record fees for shot-stoppers in the summer of 2018.
Liverpool made Alisson the most expensive goalkeeper ever to leave Roma in July 2018 for up to £67m. Yet Chelsea usurped the Anfield natives that August by signing Kepa for £71m from Athletic Bilbao. Now, Aston Villa want sums in that region to allow Martinez to leave.

Villa Park chiefs are not against considering offers for Martinez as he and his agents target Champions League football. The 30-year-old’s stock is also at an all-time high after helping Argentina lift the World Cup. While he also extended his contract to 2027 in January 2022.
Martinez would like to help Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League after three years with the team. He joined from Arsenal for £17m in September 2020 under Dean Smith. But Unai Emery now favours a sweeper-keeper more in tune with Ederson of Manchester City.

Aston Villa may sell Emiliano Martinez amid interest from Tottenham in a transfer
Aston Villa made Martinez one of their top-earners on a £125k-a-week deal to extend the 26-cap goalkeeper’s contract to 2027. He has also occasionally had the captain’s armband this term. While he has kept five clean sheets to 31 goals conceded over 21 league games.
Martinez’s exploits have also attracted Tottenham to consider his transfer from Aston Villa to replace Hugo Lloris, per Dean Jones. Spurs are considering moving on from the 36-year-old at the end of the season. Even though the Frenchman’s contract runs through to June 2024.
Lloris has endured his troubles this term after an array of high-profile mistakes costing the north Londoners points. While Martinez, who Gary Neville considered ‘absolutely amazing’ during the 2022 World Cup as Argentina’s number one, is at the peak of his career to date.
