Liverpool can now cost Tottenham Hotspur a chance to sign Donyell Malen following Cody Gakpo’s transfer. PSV Eindhoven want the Borussia Dortmund star to replace the forward.
That is according to Ruhr Nachrichten, which reports PSV have made their former attacker their top target to fill Gakpo’s void. Malen quit the Philips Stadion for BVB in July 2021 but has not proven to be a tremendous success. Now, he could return after Liverpool’s swoop.

Gakpo has moved to Anfield for an upfront €40m (£35m), rising to €50m (£44m) after add-ons. He leaves a huge gap in Ruud van Nistelrooy’s frontline in Eindhoven after scoring 13 and creating 17 goals this season. The 23-year-old also captained Boeren in several games.

PSV want a loan transfer for Malen after selling Gakpo to Liverpool
Borussia Dortmund paid PSV a guaranteed €30m (£26.5m) plus €4m (£3.5m) in add-ons for Malen in 2021. Yet he has only offered the Bundesliga giants 10 goals and nine assists in 55 appearances in all competitions. He has also scored just one and created three this season.
But now that Gakpo is a Liverpool player, PSV are exploring a loan deal to re-sign Malen in January. Boeren are yet to approach Borussia Dortmund to step up their bid, though. BVB are also unlikely to let Malen leave in the winter sales as they back him to improve in 2023.

Tottenham are also interested in signing Borussia Dortmund star Malen
Tottenham are also exploring a deal to sign Malen from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window. Sport Italia reporter Rudy Galetti claims Spurs are one of several clubs to show an interest in the 23-year-old. Antonio Conte’s side are also a team to watch closely.
Sevilla, too, have Malen’s name at the top of their January transfer window shortlist after Kasper Dolberg joined TSG Hoffenheim. Gianluca Di Marzio cites the La Liga side’s interest in the former Arsenal prospect having now allowed Dolberg to move to Germany on loan.
Malen spent a short spell in the Gunners’ academy from 2015 to 2017 before joining PSV. Now, he could return to the Eredivisie outfit where the left-sided winger made a name for himself. BVB hero Mario Gotze was also full of praise for the forward whilst in Eindhoven.
“Donyell is extremely fast and very dangerous,” Gotze said, via quotes by Bundesliga.com. “If he has a chance, it’s usually a goal, too. He’s still young but has really good abilities.”
