Tottenham Hotspur could now look to sell Dele Alli during the summer as Spurs chiefs are concerned over how he fits into Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans, according to The Athletic.

North London figures have informed several of Nuno’s squad that their futures are likely to reside elsewhere next season. Managing Director Fabio Paratici has told Moussa Sissoko, Serge Aurier and Davinson Sanchez that they will ideally be moved on for pastures new.

Paratici could also offload Lucas Moura, among others, if Spurs receive suitable offers, after selling Erik Lamela and Toby Alderweireld. But while midfielders Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Alli are unlikely to leave, the latter may yet depart Tottenham.

Alli wanted to leave Tottenham in both transfer windows last season, but Chairman Daniel Levy blocked his exit. Jose Mourinho would even have granted the England international permission to go. And he could have joined Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Mirror noted in January that PSG were confident of signing Alli from Tottenham with Pochettino determined to sign him. The Athletic now suggest Alli has another chance for a transfer, as Spurs chiefs are concerned over where he fits under Nuno.

Alli started all three of Nuno’s pre-season fixtures, despite being unnaturally suited to his midfield roles. Yet Tottenham chiefs have wider concerns going forward over how the 25-year-old will fit in the Portuguese’ desired 4-3-3 system.

Tottenham’s concerns could now offer Alli another chance to land a move away from north London. Representing a potential change in thought for Levy as the Nuno era truly begins.

Levy was to block Mourinho selling Tottenham midfielder Alli again

After blocking Mourinho from letting Alli leave in January, Levy was to block a deal for the Tottenham midfielder again this summer. That’s according to The Telegraph, who noted in April that Mourinho would have accepted a reduced fee to sell.

But Levy wanted Alli to remain a part of the Spurs squad for the 2021/22 campaign. And Alasdair Gold claimed this week that the midfielder had made a real impact in pre-season.

Yet Alli, who Mourinho claimed was ‘too good to not be one of the best players in the world’, via the Independent in 2019, may still have a route away from north London this summer.
