Tottenham are reported to be eyeing Ajax midfielder.

Ajax has proved a fruitful hunting ground for Tottenham in recent seasons with Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez signed directly from the Dutch club.

It is little wonder then that Tottenham continue to be linked with Ajax players.

In the summer they were strongly linked with a move for Ajax centre-back Mattijs De Ligt.

The Sun reported Spurs would have to pay £48 million for the defender, a fee they eventually decided they did not need to pay amid their well-placed confidence Toby Alderweireld would stay.

De Ligt is a Dutch international already at 18 and a smart signing for any club to make. Ajax are keen not to let him go too early.

Tottenham now have their eye on Ajax midfielder Frenkie De Jong and plan a January bid, The Telegraph report.

Their decision not to antagonise Ajax for a second summer in succession and sign another defender so soon after Davinson Sanchez would have helped relations between the clubs.

De Jong is three years older than De Ligt and Ajax will be more open to letting him leave.

The midfielder could be even more expensive than De Ligt, but having saved their money, and averting one transfer saga with Ajax, making a move for the midfielder in January or next summer could work in Tottenham’s favour.
