Tottenham Hotspur might just have to be patient in their reported pursuit of the Ajax ace.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars spoke to reporters about the future of reported Tottenham target Matthijs de Ligt, and insisted that the Dutchman is absolutely not for sale this summer, as quoted by Football.London.
According to a report from Football.London, Spurs are eyeing a £50 million swoop for the 18-year-old this summer, but unfortunately for them, they might just have to wait another year, if they want to bring the centre-back to north London.
Toby Alderweireld faces an uncertain future at White Hart Lane, and if the Belgian does end up leaving Tottenham, Mauricio Pochettino will absolutely have to bring in an able-bodied replacement.
It looks as though Spurs will have to either wait a year for De Ligt or focus on other targets this summer, however.
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars insisted that the Ajax youngster is not for sale at any price this summer, as quoted by Football.London:
“Frenkie de Jong, Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt are not for sale as far as we are concerned. No, not even for absurd amounts. Let them play 40 matches for Ajax this season. Come back next year. We are now at a point where we say ‘boys, we do not sell’.”
De Ligt is incredibly talented, and he will surely go on to become one of the game’s finest central defenders, but it seems as though Tottenham will have to be patient tin their pursuit fo the £50 million-rated young star.
