Tottenham Hotspur have been told that they could one day earn £100 million from Radu Dragusin after the Premier League giants fought off competition from Bayern Munich, Newcastle United, AC Milan and Napoli.

After a brief cameo appearance off the bench during the 2-2 draw with Manchester United a fortnight ago, could a first Spurs start be on the cards when Ange Postecoglou’s side face Man City in the FA Cup fourth round tonight?

Maybe so, Radu Dragusin looking to show the Tottenham Hotspur supporters what all the fuss is about, having joined the North London outfit for a cool £26 million from Genoa during the January window.

With only half a season of consistent Serie A football under his belt, and at the age of 21, Dragusin remains something of a work in progress.

But, having dubbed it the ‘biggest transfer of all time’ involving a Romanian player, former LPF president Dumitru Dragomir is convinced that Tottenham’s new number five could one day be earning the club a staggering £74 million profit.

Tottenham Hotspur win Radu Dragusin race

“If he plays as a starter, in two years, he could be sold for £100 million,” Dragomir, head of the Romanian Professional Football League until 2014, tells Fanatik

If he plays as a starter!”

Nailing down a spot in Postecoglou’s first XI may be easier said than done, however, though opportunities should be forthcoming given Cristian Romero’s penchant for picking up suspensions.

Dragusin’s agent, Florin Manea, admitted that there was also interest from Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Napoli in the one-time Juventus talent before he put pen to paper with Spurs. Talks were held with Newcastle too, The Magpies unable to compete due to their ongoing Financial Fair Play concerns.

‘Extraordinary’

“Dragusin is a phenomenon of Romanian football and a prototype, the model of the Romanian footballer,” says compatriot Vlad Chiriches, a former Tottenham defender himself, explains to Fanatik.

“No, it’s not surprising at all (that Tottenham signed him). Maybe many will say; ‘Yes, he played one year at Genoa’. But few see what happened behind the scenes. He played at Juventus, trained there, then went on loan to Sampdoria, Salernitana and went through a lot of pretty tough situations.

“In the end, he found a team that suited him. He had a very good performance and now he is at a great club.

“I don’t want to talk about dangers. I think he has shown so far that he can cope in tough situations and at good clubs. Everything he has done so far, I think has been very good and he has people with him who help him mentally.

“I see him as a strong, aggressive central defender. I think these are his main qualities, and they are extraordinary for a centre-back.”
