Alasdair Gold says James Maddison could be ‘what Jack Grealish could have been for Mauricio Pochettino’ at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Football London journalist added that Jack Grealish, who is now a Treble-winner at Manchester City, is the player recently-appointed Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino ‘never got but needed’ at Spurs, as he told his own YouTube channel.
And now one of his best mates in football, James Maddison, is donning the colours of Tottenham and hoping to provide that magic his England teammate was supposed to.
Back when Aston Villa were in the Championship, in a financial mess and heading towards administration, a certain Daniel Levy wanted the club’s star man, Grealish.
Given Villa’s situation, it was just a case of putting just under £20 million on the table for the player, but instead, he offered a few million and a certain Josh Onomah (The Athletic).
Spurs never got their man, to the frustration of their supporters, with Gold suggesting that Maddison can play the role his England teammate would have.

“I think Maddison has the potential to be what Grealish could have been for Pochettino, said Gold. “I think he could be huge for Postecoglou.
“It was quite telling that Grealish was the player that Pochettino never got but needed.”

Maddison without Kane
What will hurt Spurs fans is that when they do sign that player of magic, expert ball-carrying ability and fearless nature, he might not get to play with Harry Kane on the domestic stage.
There are suggestions that he is closing on a transfer to Bayern Munich – Sky Sports claim that they are £20 million short of what Daniel Levy wants.
Listen, Kane hasn’t gone yet and he could yet stay and Spurs fans can watch the two on a weekly basis, which would be a treat for the fans and Ange Postecoglou himself, but you can’t deny that it will dent Maddison’s game if his England captain is no longer at the club.
