Tottenham Hotspur are getting close to signing Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta, according to Tuttosport.

What’s the story?

Tuttosport are reporting today that Tottenham are close to securing the services of former Aston Villa goalkeeper Gollini.

Spurs could sign the Italy international goalkeeper Atalanta on a one to two-year loan deal.

As part of the agreement, Spurs will have to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan period.

Tottenham will be required to pay €15 to €20 million (£12.86 – £17.14m) as transfer fee.

This means that if Spurs sign the 26-year-old on loan now, then they would not have to pay the transfer fee until 2022 or even 2023.

Good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?

Tuttosport claim that Gollini will move to Spurs knowing that he will be the number two to Hugo Lloris.

And he is fine with that.

Lloris is still a very good goalkeeper, but the France international is 34 now.

Spurs need to sign a younger goalkeeper who can push Lloris and eventually take his place.

Gollini is only 26, and given his experience in Serie A and the Champions League with Atalanta, he would be a good goalkeeper to groom to take over from Lloris in one or two years’ time.
