Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Tottenham Hotspur to secure James Ward-Prowse’s transfer following Southampton’s relegation to the Championship.
The former striker thinks Tottenham, who are currently without a manager, are ‘crying out’ for a midfielder and he thinks James Ward-Prowse would fit in nicely alongside the ‘so talented’ Rodrigo Bentancur, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (01/06/23 at 8:50 am).
The Uruguay star is currently in the treatment room and he is expected to miss the start of next season, even when he was fit, Spurs needed new midfielders, so imagine what needs to be brought in now that he will miss the first few weeks of the next campaign.

In terms of Ward-Prowse’s style, he suits Tottenham because he can play in a two-man midfield and his ability from set-pieces situations.
Plus, with Southampton now in the Championship, the transfer fee on the 28-year-old’s head isn’t going to be as high as it has previously been.
Nonetheless, when Agbonlahor was asked to name where Ward-Prowse could end up, he thinks he will be Tottenham bound this summer.
“I look at teams in the Premier League and teams that really need midfielders,” said Agbonlahor. “And teams that, of course, are a level up to Southampton.
“I look at Spurs. Bentancur, who has been out for a lot of the season injured. You have got Hojbjerg, who is more defensive-minded. You have got Bissouma in there.
“But I can picture a midfield of Hojbjerg sitting, then Ward-Prowse and Bentancur playing a bit further forward. I have seen Bentancur play further forward before and make runs in-behind. He looks so talented.
“Imagine the service for Harry Kane, Son and Richarlison, with James Ward-Prowse as a number eight in that side. Set-pieces as well. Spurs are crying out for midfielders. I think James Ward-Prowse to Spurs would make sense.”

TOTTENHAM MISSING BENTANCUR
There are many factors behind why Spurs missed out on European football this term. From the Antonio Conte reign going horribly wrong to the club’s abject defending.
Those away performances, especially towards the end of the season, hurt the north London club in big ways.
But Bentancur’s absence, through injury, was as big of a miss because without his presence in the midfield, his ability to take the ball off the back line and carry the ball forward, it has resulted in the club declining even further.
