Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Fikayo Tomori has now detailed what the AC Milan star feels would take him to ‘the next level’. He can even show Spurs his worth on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a target for Spurs ahead of the summer sales as the north Londoners seek reinforcements. But Tomori was absent for AC Milan when Tottenham lost 1-0 at San Siro on February 14. He could play their Champions League last 16 second leg.

Tomori was unavailable to boss Stefano Pioli after sustaining a hip injury in January. But he is fit again after returning to action and starting in their last three Serie A games. They took the three-cap England defender to 29 appearances across all competitions so far this term.

Tottenham could scout Tomori against AC Milan as Spurs target his transfer

Reports by CalcioMercatoWeb emerged after the first leg of Tottenham and AC Milan’s tie that Tomori is on Spurs’ radar for a transfer. The Premier League club are also studying the move irrespective of Antonio Conte’s spell as their manager beyond the current campaign.

Tottenham chiefs appreciate what Tomori could offer and are willing to consider including Emerson Royal in a swap deal. Conte’s swoop for Pedro Porro in a £5m loan deal that has a £39m obligation to buy the Spaniard from Sporting Lisbon raised doubts over the Brazilian.

AC Milan do not believe swapping Tomori and Royal, who Tottenham paid Barcelona £26m for, would represent fair value for any transfer. The Rossoneri paid £25m, plus £5m in add-ons, to sign the defender from Chelsea in 2021 and extended his contract to 2027 in 2022.

What does Tomori need to achieve to discover a higher level at San Siro?

Tottenham could scout Tomori against AC Milan in the Champions League this Wednesday as Spurs target a transfer. He holds an instrumental place in Pioli’s plans at San Siro. Yet he admits there is still more to come from his game. He also feels a higher level is in his reach.

“The next level for me is just being that presence in both boxes, being dominant in the air [and] being dominant on the floor,” Tomori told UEFA.com. “[My father] says everything yields to diligence – not just in football, but in life.

“If you work hard at something, if you apply yourself and you really want it, then what you put the work into will have its rewards. It’s something that’s always been in my head, something tattooed on my brain somewhere.”

Tomori has only scored once and has no assists in 29 outings so far this term. The defender got his sole goal in a 2-0 Serie A win against Juventus in October. It took him to three goals in 91 games for the Rossoneri. He also scored one in 2020/21 on loan and one in 2021/22.
