Stefan Posch admits that he is now expecting to ‘stay at Bologna’ with a move to Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur seemingly no longer on the cards.

When Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici were both still in situ at Spurs, Stefan Posch was the sort of signing that just made sense.

Former Juventus chief Paratici knew the Austria international from his time in Serie A (Calciomercato). Posch’s experience in a back-three, meanwhile, means he’d have slotted in nicely under Conte too.

Now, with Paratici gone and Conte also a thing of the past, Posch’s chances of securing a summer move to the English capital appear to have followed both out the exit door.

Is Stefan Posch no longer an option for Tottenham Hotspur?

Bologna have a £4.5 million option-to-buy clause in Posch’s contract. And the Hoffenheim-owned giant expects to see it triggered ahead of a more long-term stay at the Serie A outfit.

“We’re discussing it (my future),” the 6ft 2ins Posch tells Sky Austria. “I think I’ll stay at Bologna.”

The one-time Wolves and Arsenal target could still be sold on by the Rossoblu, of course, so long as Bologna are offered the opportunity to make an immediate profit on a player they value in the region of £10 million.

Tottenham, however, are no in position to step up their interest in any of their summer targets at a time in which Daniel Levy has neither a head coach nor a director of football in situ. Furthermore, whoever replaces Conte in the dugout is not guaranteed to continue with the three-man backline preferred by the Italian; Posch a far more awkward fit for the likes of Luis Enrique or Arne Slot.

“When I was 16, I went to London four times,” Posch once told Football Italia, recalling why a proposed switch to Spurs’ bitter, cross-town rivals fell through a decade ago. “Arsenal had already chosen the family where I’d be living. It would have been me, a goalkeeper and Hector Bellerin.

“They told me to go to Germany and prepare my suitcase. But, in the end, they didn’t reach an agreement with my club.”
