Spurs have been linked with a move for the Dutch sensation.
Tottenham Hotspur target Matthijs de Ligt scored a horror own goal for Ajax on Saturday afternoon during his side’s 2-1 win over Eredivisie minnows Excelsior.
The Sun has credited Spurs with an interest in the 18-year-old, who is likely to remain a target this summer with former Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld’s future at Spurs in doubt with only one year left to run on his current deal.
However, Spurs face competition in the Holland international from Premier League champions Manchester City according to the Daily Mirror, who are prepping a £50million offer to test Ajax’s resolve.
But Spurs fans should look away now as de Ligt made a huge error after miscommunication with Ajax goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou that saw the Tottenham target overhit his pass and end up in the Ajax goal. Yahoo posted a video on their Twitter account.
Despite only turning 19 in August, de Ligt has already been given the Ajax captaincy of late after clocking up 62 league and cup appearances for the Dutch giants in just another example of the club’s ability to produce talent.
Spurs already boast four of Ajax’s esteemed academy in their first team, namely Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez and Christian Eriksen and could be about to make it five this summer.
A five-time Netherlands international already, de Ligt has three years left to run on his current deal.
