According to Bild, Tottenham Hotspur have submitted a bid for Borussia Dortmund star Matthias Ginter.

Ginter is a talented defender who has been touted highly for years, but he has also been very unlucky.

He is the only professional footballer to have been caught up in the terror attack in Paris in 2015 where Germany were playing at the time, and the Borussia Dortmund bus bomb earlier this year.

Quoted by German outlet De Westen over the weekend, Ginter admitted that two months ago he contemplating ending his career as he was so traumatised by the events.

Ginter said: “For a brief moment, I even thought about quitting football because you can not be prepared for attacks in the future.

“But I want and will continue. I will not allow anyone to take what I love the most!”

It is unclear if Ginter has any preference to leave Germany or stay, but his Borussia Dortmund experience has been unsettled by the departure of Thomas Tuchel, under who he progressed well last season, and this could potentially help Tottenham’s pursuit.

Ginter was part of Germany’s World Cup winning squad in 2014 although did not feature in any prominent role.

The 23-year-old is currently on duty with the German international squad at the Confederations Cup, with his side through to the semi-finals.
