Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly interested in making a summer swoop for the Real Madrid star.
Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic in action
Long-term Spurs target Mateo Kovacic’s agent ruled out the possibility of the Real Madrid man leaving the Bernabeu this summer, telling reporters how his client intends to see out his contract with the Spanish giants, as quoted by ClubCall.
The 23-year-old Croatian has been linked with a move to Tottenham on numerous occasions, most recently in March when the Mirror claimed that he was one of Mauricio Pochettino’s key transfer targets.
However, the player’s agent Nikky Vulsan seemed to pour cold water on the possibility of any kind of summer switch to the Premier League for his client, when speaking to reporters, as quoted by ClubCall:
“There is not any news. Or rather, there are no chances that this will be possible. Mateo has a very long contract with Real Madrid, which runs until 2021. So I do not understand all these rumours, all this speculation about his future.”

Pochettino will surely be looking to add further depth to his squad during the summer, but whether the central midfield department is an area where the Argentine will priorities is highly doubtful.
He already has the likes of Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Eric Dier who are all accomplished at playing in the central midfield role, and it could be argued that another striker and maybe a centre-back are the two positions where the Lilywhites need to strengthen most.
So Tottenham fans shouldn’t bee too disappointed at the prospect of missing out on Kovacic this summer.
