Tottenham are reportedly interested in Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone.
Fiorentina striker Giovanni Simeone has told Italian outlet Mediaset that he is “happy” at the Serie A side amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and a whole host of other European heavyweights.
Italian outlet Tuttosport, via AS, reported that Spurs are rivalling the likes of Valencia, Sevilla and Villarreal from Spain and Juventus, Roma, Inter Milan and Napoli from Italy for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego, has impressed this season with 14 goals in 38 league and cup appearances for La Viola. However, he has a contract with Fiorentina until the summer of 2022.
The uncapped Argentinian striker was asked about his future earlier this week, but dismissed reports that he could be tempted to leave by stating that he is content with life at Fiorentina and expressed his admiration for his current side’s fans.
“I am happy in Florence, I like the city and I love Fiorentina fans”, Simeone said.
Spurs are likely to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer, as they look to provide Harry Kane with proper competition and adequate back-up for when the England goal machine is unavailable.
Fernando Llorente has managed just five goals all season – three of which came in the form of a hat-trick against minnows Rochdale – while Vincent Janssen has endured an injury-hit loan spell with Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
It remains to be seen if Spurs will make a move to land Mauricio Pochettino’s fellow countryman, which would indeed take the Argentine contingent of players at Tottenham to four alongside Erik Lamela, Juan Foyth and Paulo Gazzaniga.
