The Portugal international is thought to be a target for Spurs as well as other Premier League teams.

Tottenham Hotspur have received a boost in their reported hopes of signing Bruno Fernandes as Sporting Lisbon manager Marcel Keizer conceded that it will be difficult for the Portuguese club to retain the midfielder’s services (Record), though there remains competition from Liverpool and Manchester United (The Express).

The 24-year-old was in impressive form for Sporting last season, notching up 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt) as the capital club won the Taca de Portugal and Taca de Liga, though they could only finish third in the Primeira Liga.

As a result, Fernandes has been tipped for a move to one of European football’s giants, with a valuation in the region of £62million (A Bola) to £70million (talkSPORT) according to the various reports on the matter, and Keizer’s comments seem to suggest that a move appears likely.

He told Record: “I want Bruno Fernandes to stay, but everyone knows the current situation. It’s going to be difficult to keep him going… he’s on vacation, we’ll see what happens. If Sporting can win the championship? First we have to see what happens in this transfer window and soon we will see.”

Ajax's coach Marcel Keizer leaves after delivering a press conference in Amsterdam on December 8, 2017 ahead of his team's Dutch premier league football match against PSV.

As well as impressing for Sporting in the season just gone, Fernandes has also performed well for Portugal, helping the Selecao to Nations League glory earlier this month and having notched up 12 caps for the reigning European champions thus far (Transfermarkt).

In addition to Fernandes, Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele have also been heavily linked with Tottenham, who have come off the back of a superb season in which they reached the Champions League final and finished in the Premier League’s top four.
