The 18-year-old has been in fine goalscoring form over the last 12 months, and has been rewarded by Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed their first signing of the summer, though it isn’t a big name arrival but a talented youngster who has committed their stay with the North Londoners.

Midfielder Jack Roles has signed professional terms with the Premier League runners-up, as illustrated by his Instagram post, having come through the club’s ranks since arriving in 2015, and will now look to follow fellow academy graduates such as Harry Winks, Josh Onomah and, at the end of this season, Filip Lesniak into the first team picture.

The eighteen-year-old has enjoyed a superb season with the Tottenham youth groups, establishing himself as an attacking midfielder with an impressive eye for goal. Roles netted an excellent 20 goals at Under-18 and Under-19 level over the last year – catching the eye in each competition he featured in – and having signed his first pro deal will be eager to perform for the Under-23 side in the Premier League 2 next season.

With dual nationality, Roles could feature for England or Cyprus, though if he continues to shine it wouldn’t be a surprise if the FA attempted to court him.

There may be bigger names to sign on a dotted line at Hotspur Way this summer, but Roles is certainly one worth remembering, and is further evidence that Tottenham are continuing to produce, and reward, exciting talent from their academy.
