Is Oliver Skipp destined to be loaned out by Tottenham Hotspur?

You have to feel sorry for Tottenham Hotspur’s Oliver Skipp.

After a promising first season in North London last term, the 18-year-old will have been hoping to kick on this time around and play even more.

But it looks so unlikely that that’ll happen – and especially if Dani Ceballos adds to Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield options.

Pochettino has already broken Spurs’ transfer record on signing Tanguy Ndombele, but now he could break young Skipp’s heart if the Real Madrid star is signed. It would effectively kill any hope the teenager has of playing a role this season.

Worst case scenario for him, Tottenham will have Ndombele, Ceballos, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier fighting over a couple of midfield positions next season.

Some big names are guaranteed to be spending quite a bit of time on the bench, which means Skipp could struggle to even make the squad, as he did so regularly last year.

He is an immense talent and one who will get a lot better, but perhaps a loan is the best option for him.

Even if Ceballos isn’t signed, he will still struggle and a season of regular football with a lesser Premier League club, maybe even in the Championship, is so much better for his development than a year in the Under-23s.
