Joel Veltman and Matthias Ginter seemingly won’t be heading to Tottenham this summer.
Tottenham are in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer – but they have suffered a double blow today as two targets are off the market.
Spurs again pushed for the Premier League title last season, and with manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to land new signings, he appears to be targeting improvements to his defence.

Eric Dier, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld have all impressed, but with Kevin Wimmer seemingly looking to leave in order to play first-team football elsewhere, another centre back is on Pochettino’s wish list.
Versatility appears to be the key for Pochettino, given that two players who can play at centre back and right back were linked with moves to North London.
The London Evening Standard recently claimed that Spurs were eyeing Ajax defender Joel Veltman in an £8million swoop, before adding that Matthias Ginter was also wanted from Borussia Dortmund.
However, neither player will be heading to Spurs this summer. Firstly, Voetbal International in the Netherlands reported this morning that defender Veltman will sign a new contract with Ajax and effectively rule out a move away from the Amsterdam Arena.

Elsewhere, Borussia Monchengladbach confirmed on their official website earlier today that they have secured a deal to sign Dortmund defender Ginter, signing him to a ‘long-term contract’.
That may well be a double blow for manager Pochettino in his pursuit of a new defender, and he may now have his eye on other targets as Ginter and Veltman commit their futures elsewhere.
