Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen has been speaking to De Telegraaf about the influence two legendary Dutch strikers are currently having on him.

The Dutch international striker joined Spurs in the summer from AZ Alkmaar and arrived at the club with a reputation for being a potent finisher.

Since playing regularly with the Dutch national team the Spurs newbie has had the pleasure to work with Marco van Basten and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Between them the pair have scored 59 goals for the Dutch national team and, up until van Nistelrooy left in February, both were working as assistant coaches to Netherlands head coach Danny Blind.

Now van Basten is also leaving, to take up a role at FIFA and the Tottenham striker has spoken to De Telegraaf about the impact the pair both had on his international career.

On the AC Milan legend, he stated:

“He has really helped his part, was an assistant and he has done well. Of course I can learn similar symbolic things from him and it’s nice as a striker with such a big name trying to help you.”

When speaking about van Nistelrooy, who is from the same town in Holland, he had this to say:

“I also asked him to award the top scorer award at the Footballer of the Year gala. And if there is something I need I can always reach him. He is a former world striker who has a lot of experience.”

Tottenham’s new signing has shown flashes of his ability for the club but has struggled to find the back of the net. He has scored just once, from the penalty spot against Gillingham in the EFL Cup.

Hopefully he can soon start to emulate these two Dutch legends at White Hart Lane.
