Tottenham stats: Consistency across the board under Mauricio Pochettino

The former Southampton manager has got his new side tackling more, passing more but shooting less than last season.

After a few unstable years, the ship seems to have finally been steadied at Tottenham Hotspur.

While last season proved just how valuable Gareth Bale had been to them, and how poorly the money from his sale had been spent, this season offered plenty of promise under up-and-coming head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

However, it has been an indifferent season for Spurs, with top performances often followed by abject displays, with their season ultimately petering out as it drew to a close. They finish with five extra points, two fewer wins, one extra draw and one extra defeat, but somehow finishing one place higher than they did in 2013/14 in fifth. Let’s take a look at their other stats to see how they’ve improved, or regressed, in key areas.

In defence, it seems consistency has reigned supreme, with the side retaining their tackling success of 79%. Their number of tackles has risen though, by 8%, while their number of successful tackles has risen by the same number. Despite that, they have managed to concede two more goals.

In midfield, their passing success has stayed the same as well, with a score of 81%. The side have managed to increase their number of passes by 7% though, while their number of successful passes has also increased, this time by 6%.

Up front, the consistency continues, with shooting accuracy remaining at 32%. However, their number of shots has fallen by 10% while their number of shots on target has also fallen, again by 10%. Despite this, they’ve managed to increase their number of goals scored by three, unquestionably aided by the efforts of Harry Kane.

With consistency across the board, it is clear where Mauricio Pochettino must look to improve next season; up front. Another forward addition in the summer, and perhaps Spurs could be challenging for a top-four finish once again.
