Harry Kane stole the headlines as Tottenham Hotspur stormed to a 5-2 win on Boxing Day in the Premier League.
Harry Kane
Serge Aurier, Harry Winks and Mousa Dembele were among the host of Tottenham stars who took to Twitter in the wake of their victory over Southampton on Boxing Day to pay tribute to Harry Kane after his incredible 2017 included one final brilliant display – while the striker himself also commented on social media after scoring his 56th goal of the calendar year.
After a hat-trick against Burnley before Christmas, Kane needed just one goal to become the first player to score 37 Premier League goals in a calendar year since the revamped league started in 1992, while he started the clash with the Saints one goal off Lionel Messi’s total of 54 goals for club and country in 2017.

But once again, Kane stole the headlines as Spurs strolled to an emphatic win at Wembley and piled even more pressure on Mauricio Pellegrino, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side winning 5-2.
Three of those goals came from Kane – Dele Alli and Son Heung-min scored the others, while Sofiane Boufal and Dusan Tadic replied for the visitors – to make it six strikes in his last two games.

Unsurprisingly, a number of his teammates took to social media after the game to laud the forward’s achievement, both in terms of setting the new record for Premier League goals in a calendar year and finishing 2017 as the most lethal goalscorer across all of Europe’s top divisions.
Kane himself also took to Twitter. But rather than use words to describe the feeling of what he has achieved, the 24-year-old simply posted 56 emojis.
Here is the best of the reaction…
