Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min has told Sky Sports that he is always smiling because he is living his dream by playing in the Premier League.

Spurs swooped to land Son from Bayer Leverkusen back in the summer of 2015, capping off a long-term pursuit from manager Mauricio Pochettino, who wanted to land the South Korean for Southampton.

The 25-year-old wide man endured a hit-and-miss first season with Spurs, notching just four goals and one assist in the Premier League, and he nearly left Tottenham in the summer of 2016 after such a disappointing first campaign in England.

However, Son proved his worth last term, racking up 14 goals and six assists in the Premier League, and he has continued to impress this season with eight goals and four assists to his name in the top flight.

Whilst Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen attract most of the attention and headlines in the Spurs attack, Son has been one of Pochettino’s most productive players this season, and he is finally getting the plaudits he deserves.

Not that such plaudits seem to affect Son anyway. One of the common themes throughout his time in North London has been that, no matter what his form, or Tottenham’s form is, he always plays the game with a smile on his face.

Now, Thierry Henry – on behalf of Sky Sports – has asked Son just why he is always smiling, and the Spurs star responded by claiming that playing football is simply him living his dream.

Son noted that he wants to just enjoy playing football and not be too tense on the pitch, hence his joyous demeanour no matter what.

“This was my dream, and this is still my dream,” said Son. “I’m living in my dream, but I can’t believe it! I’m just happy to be here in England and playing in the Premier League. I love football, and I love work. This makes my life happy, to make my life a dream. When I’m on the pitch, I just want to relax my body and not get too tense.”

“For 90 minutes, on this day, you will never get this [again]. I just want to enjoy it a lot and not think about a lot of things. This is the most important thing, right now – to enjoy it,” he added.
