Tottenham Hotspur were better than Arsenal in every department on Sunday.
Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld
Spurs star Toby Alderweireld spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s impressive 2-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, and offered surprise praise for Gunners star Petr Cech, suggesting that the scoreline could have been a lot more one-sided had the experienced ‘keeper not been on top of his game, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The Belgian centre-half was once again on top form for Tottenham against their bitter rivals at the weekend, and highlighted just how important he is to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, as he dealt with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud with minimal fuss.
The Lilywhites dominated the game, with 11 shots on target to the Gunners’ four, but even that statistic does not do justice to the one-sided manner of the contest.
And Alderweireld, 28, told reporters how his side could have won by an even more handsome margin, had Petr Cech not been on top form, as quoted by TottenhamHotspur.com:
Arsenal’s Petr Cech
“I think he had one of the best games because we could have scored a lot more. He made great saves from my header, from Jan Vertonghen’s shot so I’m very happy with the win.”
Cech, 34, has actually come in for criticism this season, with may fans and pundits suggesting that he is well past his best, but if it wasn’t for the former Chelsea star, Arsenal could have been on the wrong end of an embarrassing scoreline at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
It will matter little to Spurs though, with three points safely tucked away, and their Premier League title chase still very much on.
