Tottenham Hotspur’s second-choice goalkeeper Michel Vorm has been discussing how he has dealt with being second-choice at the club. He also spoke about his performances when he stepped in for Hugo Loris earlier this season – in conversation with Ball Street.

The Dutch goalkeeper got a rare chance between the Tottenham sticks when Hugo Lloris picked up a hamstring injury against Everton on the opening game of the season.

He performed well when standing in, especially against Liverpool. The Reds were the better team at White Hart Lane that day but could not find a way past an impressive Vorm – who made a number of telling saves and sweeper keeper interceptions.

But Vorm is happy with his role at the club and had this to say to Ball Street:

“I know my role. I have to make sure I’m ready when they call on me.

“I think Liverpool was really a game I could show my qualities.

“I think that’s always good and it’s good for everyone. I played almost every game in pre-season as well so I was ready.”

The Dutchman is never going to take the number one spot from Lloris. The Frenchman is the club captain and himself a world-class goalkeeper.

But he is clearly happy training with the club every day and playing when he can for the first-team at this stage of his career.

Spurs fans are certainly thankful they have him to call upon when Lloris needs to sit out.
