The Tottenham Hotspur winger has started both Premier League games this season.
Tottenham star Lucas Moura spoke exclusively to ESPN Brazil, and suggested that he must take advantage of any opportunity that he is given by Mauricio Pochettino this season.
The Brazilian has started both games for Spurs so far this season, in the absence of South Korean ace Heung-Min Son who is away on international duty at the Asian games, and he hasn’t disappointed, scoring a wonder strike against Fulham on Saturday.
The 26-year-old joined Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day in January, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £25 million, but he has so far failed to establish himself as a first-team regular in north London.
Lucas spoke exclusively to reporters from ESPN Brazil, however, and insisted that he must take the chance that he has been given at the start of this season:
“I have to take advantage of the opportunities that show up. It’s my first season from the start here with Tottenham. I tried to work hard and strong in the pre-season to get started. And the opportunities are there. I have to take it, it’s a big one I’m having. I will work hard, I will do my utmost to be able to help the team, to gain my spot in the team.”
Next up for Tottenham is a tough trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, and Lucas will be hoping that he is given another opportunity to prove his worth to Mauricio Pochettino.
It still remains unclear as to whether Son will be able to return to England to play against Jose Mourinho’s side.
