The Tottenham Hotspur forward has scored just five Premier League goals this season.
Tottenham forward Lucas Moura spoke to reporters after his side’s fine 3-1 win over Southampton last night, and admitted that he needs to start scoring more regularly, as quoted by the club’s official website.
The 26-year-old joined Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in January of this year, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £25 million, but he has taken his time to settle in north London.
The Brazilian has shown glimpses of his brilliant best, notably away at Manchester United earlier this season, but he has been nowhere near consistent enough for Tottenham.
That is something that he is determined to change.
Lucas told reporters after last night’s win how he must score on a more regular basis, if he is to help out his team consistently, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“I’m a striker. I am not like Harry Kane. He scores a lot of goals, but I am a striker, so I know that everyone wants to see goals from me, and it’s my job, First I work to help my team, but I know that it’s important to score, and the feeling when I score is unbelievable.”
The former PSG ace has mostly been deployed as a wide attacking player by Mauricio Pochettino this term, but he can play anywhere along the front-line, and judging by his words, he would like to be paired with Kane through the middle.
Next up for Tottenham is a tip to Leicester on Saturday night, and Lucas will be desperate to help his team to another victory by adding to his tally of five Premier League goals this season.
