Tottenham Hotspur star Sergio Reguilon appears to have given his backing to a swoop for Bryan Gil as his former Sevilla teammate closes in on a move to the Premier League.
Reguilon’s social media activity didn’t go unnoticed either. Not that he’s particularly bothered about that.
After a Spurs fansite pointed out that the highly-rated left-back had ‘liked’ a post from Fabrizio Romano on Instagram claiming that La Liga wonderkid Bryan Gil was on his way to North London, Reguilon ‘liked’ that too.
While too much can be read into a footballer’s social media output at times, it is tempting to wonder whether the former Real Madrid youngster has some insider knowledge about a deal that will see a man dubbed ‘Spain’s best footballer’ as recently as February join his old friend in North London.
Will Sergio Reguilon and Bryan Gil be reunited at Tottenham?
Reguilon spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Sevilla, and we can only assume that Gil left quite the impression on a player he would have come up against countless times in training.
A silky little winger who has been compared to not only Johan Cryuff but Neymar too, Gil is expected to join Tottenham in a £22 million cash-plus-player deal; one that will see Erik Lamela head to Andalusia as part of the deal (Guardian).
What’s more, after Gil established himself as one of Europe’s most promising young attackers during an excellent loan spell at Eibar last season, the 20-year-old could form an exciting partnership with his former Sevilla teammate down the left-hand side under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Reguilon is firmly established as Tottenham’s first-choice left-back these days, while Gil is also at his most effective on that particular flank.
It remains to be seen where this will leave Heung-Min Son, a man who cut in on his right foot to devastating effect under Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino.
