Micah Richards has told BBC MOTD’s Top 10 2022 stars programme that Tottenham star Son Heung-min has the ability to make something out of nothing like Manchester City ace Phil Foden, and Brazil superstar and captain Neymar.
Son, 30, goes into the World Cup wearing a protective face mask. It comes after undergoing surgery following four fractures under his left eye, following an aerial challenge from Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba during a 2-1 win.
There were doubts that the South Korea skipper would miss the World Cup in Qatar. But he has travelled and was part of South Korea training in Qatar, accompanied by a mask this week. He and South Korea have a really tough group.
South Korea face Portugal, Ghana and Uruguay – starting on the 24th against Uruguay. Richards compared Son to Foden and Neymar in that he can make anything happen – predicting him to cause damage at the World Cup.
“He can make anything happen, when he’s got movement around him like Foden. Like Neymar, Son can do anything from anywhere. If he’s got a team that play on the counter like Spurs, he could cause some damage at the World Cup.”

When at his best, Son can do things like Foden or Neymar. But Son is not at his best at the moment. Indeed, Son has only scored in two games this season for Spurs – albeit, a brace against Frankfurt and a hat-trick against Leicester.
South Korea will be hoping the stage of the World Cup in Qatar can help Son return to his best form. If South Korea are to nab one of the top two places in their Group, they will need Son to be at his best. A tall order for the Spurs star.
