Harry Kane has given credit to a player who Tottenham Hotspur supporters won’t want to acknowledge as a great in any way.

Speaking to Amazon Prime’s YouTube channel, the Tottenham striker was asked who the best defender that he’s ever faced was.

And the 28-year-old hitman acknowledged legendary Italian centre-back Giorgio Chiellini as one of them.

Kane said: “The likes of Chiellini, Sergio Ramos. Big, big players who played at the highest level for many years. Loved playing against them sort of players. It’s a great test of where you are as a striker.”

Villain

There’s no denying that the Juventus powerhouse is perhaps one of the greatest central defenders in the history of football.

One glance at his honours list – nine Serie A titles and Euro 2020 – ought to illustrate his pedigree.

Nevertheless, Tottenham supporters don’t like him very much.

Chiellini helped the Italian outfit eliminate Spurs from the Champions League with a 4-3 aggregate victory almost four years ago.

Speaking afterwards [BBC Sport], the 37-year-old made headlines for suggesting that the Lilywhites were bottlers, claiming he and his teammates knew Tottenham would snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Those comments didn’t go down well with fans of the North London outfit, but Kane’s comments here indicate that he holds no grudges and has no problem highlighting the big man’s influence as a footballer.
