Tottenham boss speaks out on the row concerning Harry Kane.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed striker Harry Kane is disappointed with the reaction to his ‘goal’ against Stoke City.
The winner was credited to Christian Eriksen before Kane successfully appealed via the Premier League to have the decision changed.
This prompted a furious response from Liverpool fans, who felt Kane was trying to unfairly close the gap on Mohamed Salah in the golden boot race.
Kane has also been relentlessly mocked on social media, with Twitter users beating the joke into the ground after every single goal which gets scored, commenting ‘Kane is claiming it’.
Pochettino told The Guardian that Kane has been disappointed by the reaction.
He said: “It’s normal that he was a little bit disappointed [by the response] because Harry and all our players have Twitter, Instagram and all those things and while Tottenham fans will have supported him, fans of other clubs will have killed him.
“People have opinions, but that is normal. He was disappointed because he never wanted to create this. Sometimes it can seem a simple thing, and then it becomes big and you can’t stop it. That is what happened here. I think he is going to learn a lot from this you know.”
Pochettino added that he had no qualms about Kane’s stance, and says that the striker is an honest player and has no reason to doubt the striker got a touch.
Kane is now four goals behind Salah and will play his ‘game in hand’ next week when Spurs travel to Brighton.
