The Tottenham Hotspur defender looked up to the former Manchester United star when he was growing up.

Tottenham man Juan Foyth spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his match-winning goal against Crystal Palace, and shared how Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was his footballing idol when he was growing up, as quoted by London Football News.
The 20-year-old joined Spurs from Estudiantes in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth somewhere in the region of £8 million, but he initially struggled to establish himself in north London.
Foyth has been given an opportunity to impress recently, however, playing three of Tottenham’s last four games.
The Spurs centre-back spoke to reporters after his side’s 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace on Saturday, and responded when asked who he idolised when he was young, as quoted by London Football News:

“I was young, but I know he was an amazing centre-back. I’d play the Playstation and when I’d play with friends I’d say ‘I’m Rio Ferdinand’. Playing (football) with friends, I always played centre-back, and I’d say ‘I’m Rio Ferdinand’. Since I was a kid my dream was playing in the Premier League, so I’m enjoying it.”
With Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez currently out injured, it seems as though Foyth will be presented will a real opportunity to prove himself to Mauricio Pochettino over the course of the next few weeks and months.
And the Argentine quite simply must grasp said opportunity with both hands.
