Denmark have high hopes star man Christian Eriksen can handle the pressure in their upcoming World Cup play-off.

The Danes face Republic of Ireland over two legs and all eyes are on Eriksen, set to be the best player on the pitch.

Former Premier League star Thomas Sorensen has high hopes for his compatriot, and credits Tottenham with helping Eriksen’s development.

Eriksen scored a superb goal last week for Tottenham in a 3-1 home win over Real Madrid.

Sorensen told SkySports: “His confidence has grown over the last couple of years. Now he’s playing at a world-class level, week in and week out, but he’s also doing it in the Danish team.

“He’s probably struggled with being branded as ‘the next Michael Laudrup’ and those things that came with it when he was younger, but he’s grown into the role and people see him for what he is – he’s comfortable with that now.

“He’s thriving, he’s scoring goals, he’s instrumental and if Denmark want to achieve something, they need him.”

Eriksen played a key role for Denmark in the qualifying campaign, helping them finish in second place in a very competitive group which was won by Poland.

The World Cup will be a better tournament with Eriksen involved, but Ireland will hope he ends up miserably watching from home next summer instead, but they have a tough job keeping him quiet over two legs.
