The Frenchman was reflecting on the Premier League side’s Champions League opener.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris
Hugo Lloris has told the Mirror that he is fed-up of hearing about how English sides struggle in Europe, and insisted that Tottenham are determined to change that this season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men began their Champions League group-stage campaign this past week. However, they got off to a poor start as Ligue 1 side Monaco came away from Wembley with a 2-1 win.

And perhaps fearing the reaction to the defeat, Lloris has insisted that Spurs will come out fighting and will do everything they can to change the perception of Premier League teams in Europe.
“It is a good opportunity for us to play in the Champions League and show in Europe that Tottenham are growing up and going in the right direction,” he told the Mirror.

“Unfortunately against Monaco the result was frustrating as we lost and it was a pity the way we lost. But we need to forget about it.
“We know it is very difficult to compete in the Premier League – and I am fed up hearing that Premier League clubs don’t do well in Europe. We want to change that.”

It is fair to say that English teams have struggled to make an impact in the latter stages in recent years. Since Chelsea won the trophy in 2012, no Premier League side has reached the final with Spanish and German teams dominating while Juventus also finished as runners-up in 2015.
But with a group that boasts no real standout teams, Tottenham have an excellent chance to put the opening day defeat behind them and pick up enough points over the next five games to give them the best chance of progressing in the first knockout round.
And if they can build some momentum, they will start to believe that they could be the ones to end England’s wait for a finalist.
