Tottenham Hotspur have arguably the best striker in the Premier League amongst their ranks.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane celebrates
Spurs striker Harry Kane spoke to reporters after his side’s impressive 4-0 win over Bournemouth yesterday, and explained how his record of scoring 20 plus Premier League goals in three consecutive seasons proves that he belongs at the very highest level, broadcast on the BBC’S Match of the Day programme, on Saturday April 15th.
BBC pundit Alan Shearer jokingly suggested that he needs to score even more though, if he is to be classed as a true great.
Kane responded to a BBC reporter who highlighted that he has now scored 20 or more goals in his previous three campaigns:
“It’s a great achievement. Of course, after the first season, there was a lot of talk whether I could continue it. Now it’s three in a row, it shows that this is where I belong.”
The former Newcastle United and England international striker responded in jest, however:
Alan Shearer celebrates during his playing days with Newcastle
“You know what he’s got to do now don’t you? He’s got to go and score 30 plus in three consecutive seasons.”
Shearer scored 260 Premier League goals during his outstanding career, a full 191 more than the Tottenham man’s current tally.
He scored 30 plus Premier League goals for three consecutive seasons from 1993/94 to 1995/96.
There is much debate as to whether the 23-year-old can surpass the Newcastle legend’s record, and whilst it undoubtedly is an incredibly difficult task, he will overtake Shearer’s tally in 10 years time if he averages 20 goals per season for the next decade.
And it would take a brave man to bet against him doing just that.
