Tottenham Hotspur Harry Winks has impressed so far this season.
During an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Spurs youngster Harry Winks opened up on his relationship with his manager Mauricio Pochettino, and shared the gratitude he holds for the Argentine.
The 20-year-old burst onto the scene at White Hart Lane this season, making 22 appearances for the club in all competitions, and his classy playing style has Tottenham fans excited that they have one seriously good prospect amongst their ranks.
Tottenham’s Harry Winks comes on as a substitute to replace Mousa Dembele
And with so many world class midfielders currently at Spurs, Pochettino deserves a lot of credit for integrating Winks into his first team setup, when he could have quite easily farmed him out on.
The young midfielder’s only goal for Tottenham came during their 3-2 home win over West Ham in November, and he shared what he told his manager in the aftermath of the game, when speaking to the Guardian:
Tottenham’s Harry Winks in action
“He understood how difficult the season before had been for me, travelling and not playing, and he said that. I just said: ‘Thank you very much for the opportunity, for progressing me to the first-team.’ That goal was like a thank-you. It’s why I ran to him after it.”
The challenge now for Winks will be to force his way into Spurs’ starting line-up on a regular basis – something that will be easier said than done, with the likes of Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier currently at the club.
