Kane had not played for Tottenham since September due to an ankle injury.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has told the club’s official website that it gets sweeter every time he bags a goal in the North London derby after his penalty ensured that the points were shared on Sunday.

Kane’s penalty six minutes into the second-half was his fifth career goal against Arsenal. And the England striker reflected upon making yet another contribution in the derby following the game.

“It was an important goal to get us back in the game and we could even have sneaked a winner at the end when Christian hit the post,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’ve scored a few goals against Arsenal now and it gets sweeter every time I score, especially in front of the fans. The travelling support was great again.”

As well as for preventing the bragging rights going to the Gunners, it is likely that Kane enjoyed Sunday’s goal because of the length of time that he has spent on the sidelines in recent times.

The appearance in the derby was the 23-year-old’s first taste of action since he sustained an ankle injury in the win over Sunderland back in September (via club’s official website). And he admitted that it has been a frustrating time, having to watch Mauricio Pochettino’s men from the sidelines.

“I feel good. It’s been a tough spell sitting it out and watching the team so I was delighted to get back out there and get some minutes under my belt,” he added.

In addition to ending his wait for a goal, Kane may also feel that the moment was ultimately sweeter as it denied the Gunners the opportunity to go to the top of the table – albeit temporarily given Liverpool’s emphatic win later in the day – while preserving Tottenham’s unbeaten start in the Premier League.

And if the point proves to have some significance when the title race begins to reach full speed, then Kane will surely find the moment all the more satisfying.
