Troy Parrott is struggling for form at Preston, having joined the Championship side on loan from Tottenham in the summer – and Lancs Live say the striker produced his “poorest outing so far” on Tuesday in a 1-1 draw with Burnley.

Parrott, 20, looked ready for the step up to the Championship. That is, after having a hand in 17 goals during his 47 MK Dons outings last term. But this time, he has scored only once, and failed to create, in 11 appearances for Preston.

However, his one goal is still a third of Preston’s total outlay this season. Quite bizarrely, Lowe’s men have only scored three goals in nine Championship games – conceding only two. Tuesday proved to be their highest-scoring game.

So it is not as if Parrott is being outscored by one of his teammates, but clearly, he can do a lot better. Indeed, Lancs Live reported that the Ireland international’s display on Tuesday night was his worst so far. He was given a 4/10.

“Kept running up there but just couldn’t get into the game. His poorest outing so far but the service to him and Riis was pretty much non-existent,” Lancs Live reported on Tuesday evening in regards to Parrott, following the 1-1 draw.

Now, clearly, the tactics deployed by manager Ryan Lowe is to be focused on defence. Preventing teams from beating them. But even then, to have only scored three goals in nine games is quite ridiculous as an entire side.

Parrott needs to be doing better. A hard-working striker, he really needs to add numbers to his loan if he is to show Antonio Conte what he is capable of. There is a vacancy at Spurs, as a second no.9 behind Harry Kane.

Parrott has the chance to grab that role if shines at Preston. But right now, he is being outshone by Dane Scarlett at League One side Portsmouth. Perhaps a switch in tactics will start to get the best out of the Tottenham loanee.
