The Tottenham Hotspur forward has been in excellent form recently.

Tottenham Hotspur's Erik Lamela

Tottenham star Erik Lamela spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace on Saturday, and admitted that he still loves his boyhood club River Plate, although he did insist that he is only focused on Spurs, as quoted by Football.London.

The Argentine joined Tottenham from Roma in the summer of 2013, for a fee believed to be in the region of £26 million, but he has never really lived up to what was expected of him.

He has shown signs recently, however, that he is ready to step up to the plate for Spurs this season, and he has been a vitally important player for Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Lamela spoke to reporters on Saturday, and responded when asked whether he would be interested in returning to his boyhood club River Plate one day, as quoted by Football.London:

“I don’t know, in this moment I am thinking only Tottenham. That is the club that is giving me everything. Of course I love River but, it is not time to think about coming back. I think River are playing very good at the moment, without me.”

Lamela is still contracted to Tottenham until the summer of 2022, and if he continues to play like he has been recently, he will surely have a huge role to play for Pochettino’s side over the next few years.
