Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has one word to describe bitter rivals West Ham United and he wants revenge in Saturday’s derby clash.
The Hammers entertain Spurs at the London Stadium in the lunchtime kick-off just four months after Slaven Bilic’s side ended the North London club’s title hopes there.
That came a year after another 1-0 victory in West Ham’s farewell season at Upton Park which proved to be the beginning of the end of Tottenham’s title chase as Leicester City completed their fairytale story.
West Ham’s wins have only served to intensify a fierce rivalry which has become more embittered over the years with flash points like Lasagne-gate a case in point.
Now ahead of the derby clash Spurs star Eric Dier has been talking to Sky Sports about his desire for revenge.
“You build relationships with every team don’t you, and you build a history,” Dier told Sky Sports.
“So obviously after (the defeat which handed Chelsea the title) and the season before that we lost and we could have gone top of the table at West Ham and (Michail) Antonio scored and we lost that game as well.
“So there’s a history there of them being a thorn for us, obviously we want revenge.”
Had this game taken place three weeks ago Spurs would be overwhelming favourites such was the disarray at West Ham.
But three clean sheets in a row and four Premier League points have lifted the Hammers out of the bottom three with Bilic’s side looking a lot more solid.
Dier’s chances of revenge are boosted as the man who scored the winner back in May, Manuel Lanzini, is not fit enough to feature.
