Tottenham picked up a much-needed win against Everton at home last night. Spurs were 10th before kick-off but, thanks to the victory, they are now just a point behind seventh-placed Arsenal.

The biggest talking point in an otherwise underwhelming game was the clash between Son Heung-min and Hugo Lloris at half-time.

Jose Mourinho labelled the altercation as “beautiful” because “nice boys” only win “the Fair Play Cup.” (Daily Star)

This isn’t the first time Mourinho has urged his players not to be too nice. The Spurs manager did the same after his side’s defeat against Wolves back in March (Mirror) but Harry Winks seems to disagree with his boss’s assessment.

He told the Daily Star: “I wouldn’t say we’re too nice, no. We’ve been on the receiving end of each other’s critiques before after some defeats or games when we haven’t been right. We’ve told each other.

“After the game against Sheffield, it wasn’t a pretty game, it wasn’t a good game to be involved in and we had some words to say to each other. The most important thing we can do is show it on the pitch. We can say stuff in the changing rooms and in team meetings.

“But we have to show it on the pitch and I think this was a step in the right direction.”

The most important thing for Spurs was for them to get back to winning ways. Mourinho’s men achieved that last night but they are still a long way off where they want to be.

Spurs have a relatively easy game against Bournemouth on Thursday before a massive North London derby against Arsenal this weekend.

Mourinho needs to get his side ready for the derby and a win there is an absolute necessity irrespective of how nice Spurs’ stars are on the day.
