When Gareth Southgate’s side made the semi-finals of World Cup 2018, Alli was a key player.
He was by far the best playmaker in the side and looked set to be a regular for the next decade.
Three years on and Alli wasn’t even in contention for the England squad this summer.
He’s got the chance of a fresh start under Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham.
And his absence from the England squad means he’s able to get stuck in from day one of pre-season training.
Spurs are already back in, preparing and working hard for the new campaign.
And a video has emerged on Instagram of Alli showing off his skills during a training session before pre-season even started.
Alli doing extra work before coming back is impressive. It shows he has the right mentality for the season ahead.
Now he has to force his way into Nuno’s plans – and he should get a chance to impress in pre-season.
With some of Spurs’ more senior players going into the knockout stages of the tournament, Alli might be required to step up while they’re having an extended rest.
