Mauricio Pochettino may think that Dele Alli is the best young footballer in the world, but the Tottenham Hotspur star is not letting that get to his head.
Tottenham manager Pochettino recently told The Guardian that 21-year-old England international midfielder Alli is the best young player on the planet.
The former Milton Keynes Dons youngster has responded to those comments, and told The Mirror: “To have a manager who has that sort of trust and confidence in you, thinks so highly of you is obviously a nice feeling.
“I hope that one day he will be saying it more. He’s not said that to me yet, but it feels good.”
Mature comments
Alli is a very young footballer who is still developing and still has room to improve, and his comments in response to Pochettino’s praise are very mature.
The 21-year-old’s performances so far this season have not been consistent and could have been better, but there is no doubt on his quality and talent.
The England international will be a key player for Spurs in midfield in the final weeks of the season.
Tottenham have progressed to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and are also fighting for a place in the top four of the Premier League this season.
According to Spotrac.com, Alli earns £55,000 per week as salary at Tottenham at the moment.
