Spurs star Eriksen and Croatia’s Modric have shone at this summer’s World Cup.
Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has told Danish newspaper BT that he believes he is just as good as Real Madrid and former Spurs superstar Luka Modric.
Eriksen, 26, has almost single-handedly carried Denmark into the last 16 of the World Cup, providing the assist for Youssef Poulson’s winner against Peru, scoring against Australia and helping Denmark draw 0-0 with France.
Similarly, Modric has shone for Croatia, and masterminded his country’s sensational 3-0 win over Argentina – scoring his side’s second with a superb effort from 25 yards out that flew past Willy Caballero.
Croatia also beat Nigeria and Iceland and now Eriksen and Modric face off in the last 16. Asked whether he thought he was on the same level as Modric, Eriksen replied stating that he believes he is no worse than Modric.
“I do not consider myself to be worse than him,” Eriksen said, when asked about Modric of whom he replaced at Spurs a year after the Croat moved to Real in 2012.
Eriksen has been in fantastic form this season, scoring 14 goals and laying on another 13 assists during his 47 league and cup outings for Spurs during the 2017-18 campaign.
It remains to be seen where the former Ajax star’s long-term future lies, with only two years remaining on his current Spurs contract. However, it is reported that he will be set to sign a new deal – alongside a number of other Tottenham players.
