Ben Davies was selected for Tottenham against Manchester United, standing in for the injured Danny Rose.
The left-back had a chance to lay down a marker to keep his place in the side for when Rose returns, so he did do enough?
In comparison to his opposite number Luke Shaw, Davies came off second best, with the Manchester United man impressing.
Shaw was a big money signing from Southampton a year ago, but did not feature in the Red Devils opener last season due to injury, and had a not so great first campaign at Old Trafford.
This time he has hit the ground running and put in an accomplished defensive display against Spurs.
He won more aerial duels, overall duels, tackles, and made more ball recoveries than Davies, with the Tottenham ace only coming off better when it came to interceptions.
Shaw also had a pass completion rate of 85 per cent, superior to Davies’ 74%.
The Welshman’s performance was not necessarily better either than the one Rose put in at Old Trafford last season in a 3-0 loss.

Rose’s injury status for Tottenham’s next game of the season against Stoke City is currently unclear, but Davies will hope for another opportunity to impress, with better results individually and with a win for his team.
