David Brooks and Callum Wilson are linked with huge-money moves to Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur look set to flex some financial muscle after 18 months working outside of the transfer market.
Spurs haven’t signed a player since January of 2018 when Lucas Moura joined from Paris Saint-Germain.
But with a huge windfall coming their way from reaching the Champions League final, coupled with the fact that they have finally moved into their new stadium, chairman Daniel Levy could loosen the purse strings for Tottenham to bolster their ranks.
Now, Mauricio Pochettino just has to ensure that he doesn’t waste it – and swerving a double deal for Cherries duo David Brooks and Callum Wilson would be a good start.
According to The Sun, Pochettino wants both players in a huge investment of around £80 million, which is far too much money.
Firstly, spending £40 million on Wilson, who would be a back-up striker to Harry Kane, is potentially insane. Wilson, who turns 28 next February, only managed 14 goals in 30 Premier League outings last season.
It isn’t a bad return, but it isn’t prolific enough to warrant Tottenham making him their second-most expensive signing of all time.
Brooks, on the other hand, is only 21 and there’s no telling how good he could be after a few seasons being coached by Pochettino but, by the same token, £40 million is a huge sum to spend on someone who could be great, but at this moment in time wouldn’t get in their first XI.
Two inactive transfer windows have made Spurs fans desperate for new signings, but Brooks and Wilson, for that money, certainly would not be worth the wait.
